Millie Bobby Brown has opened up about her dream role and revealed that she would love to play Britney Spears on screen.
Universal Pictures have landed the rights to adapt Britney Spears’ memoir The Woman in Me into a film and Wicked director Jon M. Chu and producer Marc Platt will develop it.
The news comes two years after Millie Bobby Brown appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and tweets suggesting that Millie should play Britney went viral online.
Millie, who is 21 years old, has now spoken a handful of times about hoping to play Britney one day but on one condition… And that condition is that Britney is able to tell her story “how she wants to”.

Millie Bobby Brown wants to play Britney Spears in a biopic
In 2022, Millie was a guest on The Drew Barrymore Show. During the interview, Drew Barrymore asked Millie about her goals as an actress and what’s still on her bucket list. Millie then replied: “I want to play a real person and I think for me: Britney Spears”.
Explaining why she is set on playing Britney, Millie replied: “I think her story resonates with me, just growing up in the public eye. Watching her videos, watching interviews when she was younger. I don’t know her but when I look at pictures of her, I feel like I could tell her story in the right way and hers only.”
In the past, Millie has also said that she would love to play Halsey on screen.

Since then, Millie has been asked several times about portraying the pop icon particularly now that Jon M. Chu is in the early stages of development on the movie.
Millie’s latest comments come in a new red carpet interview with Access Hollywood where she was asked about her newly dyed blonde hair and whether it had anything to do with her playing Britney.
“I mean, she is an absolute icon,” she said. “I would love nothing more than to be a part of her story but that’s her story, and I am in full support of her bringing her story to life how she wants to.”
“I would not want that, you know, I would want someone bringing it to life in a beautiful way so, I would always be open to something like that,” she added, stressing the importance of hearing Britney’s voice above everything.
Casting information for Britney’s biopic is currently yet to be revealed.
Back in January 2025, Jon M. Chu clarified to Entertainment Tonight that he had ideas but that it was “very, very early” in development. He also clarified that Britney is going to be “very involved” in the project.
“I’ve seen all the fan-casting, I’ve seen all that stuff – and I always take that into consideration because maybe there’s a good idea out there,” he added. “But we’ll have to see what the approach of the movie before we know who’s right for it.”
